Diga Rhythm Band

During a lull in activities with the Grateful Dead, percussionist and ethnomusicologist Mickey Hart joined with tabla player, Zakir Hussain, son of longtime Ravi Shankar accompanist, Alla Rakha, and students of the Ali Akbar College of Music to form the heavily percussive Diga Rhythm Band in 1975. Recording their sole album, Diga, in Hart's barn/studio in Novato, California, the 11-piece group was augmented by Jerry Garcia on guitar and Jim McPherson, Kathy McDonald and David Freiberg on vocals. One tune on the album, "Happiness Is Drumming (Fire on the Mountain) went on to be a staple at concerts by the Grateful Dead, the Other Ones and Hart's Planet Drum.

Formed as the Tal Vadya Rhythm Band in 1973, the group was renamed the Diga Rhythm Band following Hart's arrival two years later.

Hart severed his connection with the group after returning his focus to a re-energized Grateful Dead in 1976. He has continued to collaborate with Hussain, a charter member of Planet Drum. Other Diga Rhythm Band members who have remained active include tabla player Tor Dietrichson, who signed a solo contract with Global Pacific, and marimba player Jim Loveless, vibes player Ray Spiegel and duggi tarang and nal player Arshad Syed, who joined multi-ethnic fusion group, Ancient Future in 1993.

DIMENSION are a Japanese electric jazz group formed in Tokyo in1992.The group comprises Takashi Masuzaki(Guitar), Akira Onozuka(Keyboards), Kazuki Katsuta(saxophone).

DIMENSION released their first album, Le Mans, as TV Program for the 24 Hours of Le Mans soundtrack, in 1992.Then they has released 20 albums of original work in past 15 years, and performed at Tokyo Jazz Festival, Seoul Jazz Festival and more music festivals. All albums are highly regarded and win best jazz prize of Japanese jazz music magazine "ADLIB" many times. Also, they has played a lot of recordings and sessions as solo musician for other artists.

Various Artists - Miles From India (2008) [2CD]

Mixing the music of jazz icon Miles Davis with sounds and instruments from India, as producers Bob Belden and Yusuf Gandhi did on Miles from India, was far from an outrageous proposition. Davis set the precedent himself — not only with his use of Indian players like the tabla virtuoso Badal Roy in sessions issued on albums like Big Fun and Get Up with It, but also with his sinuous modal compositions stretching back to 1959's epochal Kind of Blue and continuing through his electric period of the '70s.

ARTISTS:The Miles alumni included on the sessions are saxophonists Dave Liebman (1972-74) and Gary Bartz (1970-71), guitarists Mike Stern (1981-84), Pete Cosey (1973-76) and John McLaughlin (1969-72), bassists Ron Carter (1963-69), Michael Henderson (1970-76), Marcus Miller (1981-1984), Benny Rietveld (1987-91), keyboardists Chick Corea (1968-72), Adam Holzman (1985-87) and Robert Irving III (1980-88), drummers Jimmy Cobb (1958-63), Leon 'Ndugu' Chancler (1971), Lenny White (1969) and Vince Wilburn (1981, 1984-1987) and tabla player Badal Roy (1972-3).

The Indian contingent is represented by keyboardist Louiz Banks, drummer Gino Banks, American-born alto saxophonist Rudresh Mahanthappa, sitarist Ravi Chari, Vikku Vinayakram (a charter member of Shakti) on ghatam, V. Selvaganesh (a member of Shakti and Remember Shakti) on khanjira, U. Shrinivas (from Remember Shakti) on electric mandolin, Brij Narain on sarod, Dilshad Khan on sarangi, Sridhar Parthasarathy on mridangam, Taufiq Qureshi and A. Remember Shakti - Saturday Night In Bombay (ft. John McLaughlin) (2001) {Verve}

SATURDAY NIGHT IN BOMBAY was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best World Music Album.
John McLaughlin brought his revived Indo-jazz project Shakti to Bombay (Mumbai) in late 2000, and the result is this live disc, which features ly four compositions but runs over an hour in length. (The title is a deliberate play on 1980's Friday Night in San Francisco.) McLaughlin's electric guitar and Zakir Hussain's tabla remain at the core of the group's sound. U. Shrinivas (on mandolin) and V. Selvaganesh (on kanjira, ghatam, and mridangam, all Indian percussion instruments) remain from the previous album, but there are also a number of Indian guest musicians, giving the music many added dimensions.

The most remarkable guests are Debashish Bhattacharya on Hindustani slide guitar, Shankar Mahadevan on vocals, and Shiv Kumar Sharma on santur, an Indian hammered dulcimer. Sharma composed the second track, "Shringar"; nearly half an hour long, it consists almost entirely of a hypnotic dialogue between santur and guitar. Mahadevan's vocal performance on the opening "Luki" resounds with spiritual power, while Shrinivas's "Giriraj Sudha" gives a sunny, optimistic lift to the somewhat mournful set.

Glenn Delaune - Fusion III (2008)

Born on October 19th, 1961 and classically trained at the age of five years old, Glenn started on a musical journey that to this day is still taking him down many roads. He quickly learned to perform and by first grade he was up in front of his classmates singing and playing songs like “Sweet Georgia Brown” and “Camp Town Races.” Glenn attributes his talents to his grandfather Lester J. Lalande who taught Glenn to play at the age of four. Growing up in South Louisiana, he was exposed to many different kinds of music. He played the trumpet throughout his Jr. years and also started a band in tenth grade with a few friends. By the time he graduated high school in 1979, he started to immerse himself into jazz recordings from Jean Luc Ponty, Jeff Beck, Larry Carlton, Bill Bruford and others. Not too long after that Glenn went on the road playing everything from rock & country to cajun and blues music styles with various bands.

Heavily influenced by recordings from Larry Carlton, Fourplay, and The Rippington’s, Glenn has achieved his own smooth, flowing style of guitar magic. Realizing that speed is great but is just an extra and feeling is everything, he strives to write melodies that will be remembered for their beauty and content, not complexity. His versatility on all instruments comes through on the recordings he produces from his studio. Glenn is affiliated with BMI as a writer and publisher with a catalog of over 190 songs to his credit.

Glenn has released his album entitled "FUSION III". This mix of Funk/Fusion & Progressive Rock is reminiscent of the older Jeff Beck / Jan Hammer recordings from the “Wired” and “Blow By Blow” era but with a funk backbeat. Sort of like Jeff Beck meets Joe Satriani meets Average White Band.
